Ridgefield CT was incorporated in 1709 as part of the Connecticut Colony. Ridgefield was the site of a Revolutionary battle in 1777. Come the 1800s, with the inclusion of a railroad, the town grew thanks to rich New York City residents who built estates and summer cottages here. During the Great Depression, most of these estates were torn down and land divided into smaller lots which helped Ridgefield become a bedroom community in the mid 20th century.
